About the Team

Proto’s team is extremely global with 92% BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Colour) and 50% female members working. We’re a remote team of self-starting and entrepreneurial NLP engineers, SaaS sales professionals, and digital nomads. Our management operates established processes for cross-cultural and timezone collaboration, while limiting Zoom to less than an hour a day 🙌🏼

Job Summary

As a DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing key parts of the system infrastructure and release procedures of our complex AI Customer Experience (AICX) platform. You will also take a leading role on integrations with new messaging channels, transaction / payment systems, and client databases.

Working Hours

We're accepting global candidates. However, the working hour is GMT+8 daytime, and participating in the on-call rotation is needed.

Responsibilities

  • Acquire a complete understanding of our SaaS products

  • Proactively improve the architecture and pay technical debts

  • Develop processes and automation to eliminate repetitive tasks

  • Ensure the highest standards of quality are met

  • Maintain healthy code base (maintainable, scalable, secure, bug-free)

  • Collaborate with our product and client support teams

  • Participate in a flexible on-call rotation

  • Other tasks as assigned

Requirements

  • 3+ years with Web Infrastructure and Product Ops

  • Analyze security systems and seek improvements on a continuous basis

  • Adept at finding the right tool for each task, avoiding the NIH syndrome

  • Strong relational database skills, writing complex SQL queries, optimizing database performance, executing zero-downtime database operations and migrations

  • Experience with Continuous Integration and Test Automation (we use Gitlab Pipelines with docker-compose and pytest)

  • Experience deploying and managing distributed systems on Cloud Service Providers, especially Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services

  • Experience working with container orchestration, especially Kubernetes and Helm

Nice-to-Haves

  • Python Web development

  • Natural Language Processing tools, such as PyTorch, BERT-as-service, Duckling, etc.

  • Monitoring tools, such as Prometheus and Grafana

  • Flyway database migration

  • Experience using infrastructure-as-code tools to build and run cloud infrastructure

  • Experience monitoring infrastructure health and logs
